On November 10th we are proud to offer another of our annual Veteran’s Day weekend programs. Each year at this time we offer special events including cruises and lectures focused on the Civil War era in recognition of the important part the park has played in America’s military history. This year we are pleased to be working with the Pensacola and Mobile Civil War Roundtables to host Dr. Brian Steel Wills as our featured speaker. Dr. Wills is the Director of the Center for the Study of the Civil War Era and Professor of History at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA. He is the author of numerous books relating to the American Civil War, including biographies of Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest and Union general George Henry Thomas. His presentation at Blakeley, “Hollywood Reels in History: The Civil War in the Movies,” is based on his acclaimed book, Gone With the Glory: The Civil War in Cinema. The lecture will take place in our Wehle Center at 11:30 AM and is complimentary with regular park admission or tickets for the special cruise we have planned immediately prior. At 9:00 AM, we offer one of our popular “Civil War on the Eastern Shore” cruises, a unique narrated voyage of discovery exploring the major battles of the Civil War’s “Mobile Campaign” from the rivers along which they took place. Tickets for the cruise are only $27 for adults and $17 for kids ages 6-12. You’ll want to arrive at the riverfront a few minutes early, as we will have our reenactors demonstrating Civil War artillery near the park dock at 8:30 and 10:30 AM (just before we board and just after we dock).
