This combination of walking tour and river cruise allows student groups to learn about the wealth of history at the park and its unparalleled natural setting. Times and order of events can be set according to your scheduling needs.

Our short walking tours make stops at two areas of the park where its primary historical stories come to life; the battlefield and the old town site. Each visit lasts about 40 minutes (1 hour total tour time). Students will get a chance to walk the streets of historic Blakeley, once one of Alabama’s largest towns. The tour includes visits to the ruins of Baldwin County’s first courthouse and “ghost structures” helping students better comprehend life in an early 1800s urban center. They will also visit our re-creations of an Apalachee Indian home and homes of colonial area residents as we discuss life on the site long before the town was established. On the battlefield portion of the tour, students get to literally walk in the footsteps of the contending armies which fought in the Battle of Fort Blakeley. Blakeley is the site of Alabama’s largest and best-preserved Civil War battlefield. Tour stops include amazingly intact trenches, artillery positions and rifle pits.

Before or after the walking tour, hop aboard our covered pontoon boat, the Delta Explorer, for an hour-long cruise along the Tensaw. As we journey through one of the nation’s most scenic and historic waterways, students learn about the rich cultural and natural history of the Delta as we keep an eye out for wildlife such as alligators and eagles.
 

Pricing: $450 for groups of up to 49 people. For larger groups booking multiple tour packages on the same day, a minimum of $300 applies for the second booking, and $150 for a third.
