Remote Bayou Canot, located just off the Mobile River north of the city near Twelve Mile Island, was the scene of two of the most dramatic tragedies in regional history: the end of the cruise of the last known slave ship in American history, the Clotilda, and the derailment of Amtrak’s “Sunset Limited”.
