Arbor Day’s “roots” in Alabama stretch back to 1887, when Governor Thomas Seay, a veteran of the Civil War Battle of Fort Blakeley, issued the first proclamation for the holiday. Since 1975, Arbor Week has been observed annually in Alabama during the last full week of February.

At 9:00 AM noted local botanist Fred Nation will guide visitors on a 45-minute journey through the magnificent riverside forest at the Five Rivers Delta Resource Center to discover the abundance and diversity of its native tree species. This walking tour will begin and end at the parking lot for the Bartram Landing.

The tour is complimentary with cruise tickets.

At 10:00 AM we offer a two-hour excursion into the wild and scenic delta aboard our 50-passenger pontoon boat, the Delta Explorer. This cruise showcases the beauty and natural diversity of one of America’s natural wonders.

Tickets are $25 for adults and may be purchased on our website.

Throughout the day, while supplies last, visitors to Historic Blakeley State Park may pick up free tree seedlings supplied by the Alabama Forestry Commission. Varieties include maple, oak, red bud, and crepe myrtle among others.
